'clockwise shoal' - driftwood art

£ 108.00

The driftwood canvas for this big, bold piece is part of an industrial reel that the artist Lizzie and her older son Jacob found washed up on a local beach after a particularly stormy November night.

Having proudly wheeled it back to the car they later deconstructed the reel (hit it with hammers!) and from it took the two large circular ends that have been used as the striking canvas for this painting and it's twin.

The holes left by the metal tubes holding the two halves together make perfect eye holes for the Mackerel that swim and swirl around the painting. The piece is suitable for wall mounting and would make an eye-catching and original addition to any wall.

Lizzie Spikes lives, works and walks on the beautiful West coast of Wales. She creates her paintings on canvases fashioned from the flotsam and jetsam found washed up on the beaches of Ceredigion.

The planks and old wood show evidence of their previous lives and working with layers of old paint, the nail holes and the man made shapes along with the form fashioned by the sea to create original and inspiring canvases for her paintings - giving these pieces of wood new life and purpose.
