Lizzie sometimes finds pieces of driftwood that resemble fish and has used two of them in this painting. She has painted fish onto them and then attached to a chunky driftwood tile. The detailed depictions of Mackerel swimming around make the three dimensional fish stand out and add a real sense of depth to this shoal.

Lizzie Spikes lives, works and walks on the beautiful West coast of Wales. She creates her paintings on canvases fashioned from the flotsam and jetsam found washed up on the beaches of Ceredigion.

The planks and old wood show evidence of their previous lives and working with layers of old paint, the nail holes and the man made shapes along with the form fashioned by the sea to create original and inspiring canvases for her paintings - giving these pieces of wood new life and purpose.
