'terraces' - driftwood art

£ 78.00

These rows of terraced houses are inspired by New Quay (the Ceredigion one!) which is a lovely little seaside town south of Aberystwyth.

It has row upon row of terraces stretching down to its steep harbour walls. Lizzie has made the piece up from a collection of smaller fragments of driftwood - each house is painted on a separate block of wood and the harbour wall and bright blue sea are also made from small driftwood pieces. This small piece is bright and beautiful and reminiscent of bright summer days by the sea.

Lizzie Spikes lives, works and walks on the beautiful West coast of Wales. She creates her paintings on canvases fashioned from the flotsam and jetsam found washed up on the beaches of Ceredigion.

The planks and old wood show evidence of their previous lives and working with layers of old paint, the nail holes and the man made shapes along with the form fashioned by the sea to create original and inspiring canvases for her paintings - giving these pieces of wood new life and purpose.
