This quotation is part of Lizzie's 'Word on Wood' series - inspired while looking for a use for the smaller fragments and scraps of driftwood that picked up whilst wandering the beaches in search of treasure.

She cuts, saws and shapes the smaller bits and pieces and put them together in collections to make up words from various writers and poets relating to the sea. Each letter is painted on its own piece of wood and then mounted together on a piece of wood in order to present the words in a novel and striking way.

Lizzie Spikes lives, works and walks on the beautiful West coast of Wales. She creates her paintings on canvases fashioned from the flotsam and jetsam found washed up on the beaches of Ceredigion.

The planks and old wood show evidence of their previous lives and working with layers of old paint, the nail holes and the man made shapes along with the form fashioned by the sea to create original and inspiring canvases for her paintings - giving these pieces of wood new life and purpose.
