Detailed hand-carved and painted wooden bird sculpture of a Cormorant captured in an elegant pose and mounted on a wooden plinth.
The Cormorant is found around the UK coastline on rocky shores, coastal lagoons and estuaries, it is increasingly seen inland at reservoirs, lakes and gravel pits.
A piscivore dining on on small eels and fish. They dive from the surface, though many species make a characteristic half-jump as they dive, presumably to give themselves a more streamlined entry into the water. Under water they propel themselves with their feet. Some cormorant species have been found, using depth gauges, to dive to depths of as much as 45 metres.
Each carved bird and base is unique and therefore may vary slightly.
All the birds in this range are designed in the UK by British artists and produced in Bali under fair trading conditions.
