'Sail boat no. 2' by Shirley Vauvelle is a delightful free-standing piece built from a discarded block of driftwood which is then decorated with all of Shirley's individual detailing. This piece looks good from any angle.
An earthenware ceramic boat sits atop a driftwood block - complete with textured pattern hull with driftwood mast and wire rigging. The side of the block features a vintage map of East Kent, England seaside resorts of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. A quirky 'catch of the day' ceramic fish hangs from a wire connected to a rusty nail.
Shirley has a passion for detail, texture and colour - using mark making to emboss the fish and then glaze with layer upon layer of colour.
Her inspiration comes from her love of the coast, country walks with her dog and the fun of creating objects that are a little bit different and quirky.
She likes the idea of layering texture and colour to create pieces that are highly individual and totally unique.
