Little Boat Sculpture No. 1 by Shirley Vauvelle features an earthenware ceramic boat sitting atop a driftwood block - complete with textured pattern hull with driftwood mast, wire rigging and sails made from hessian with the number 1 proudly displayed on one sail. A delightful free-standing sail boat piece decorated with all of Shirley's individual detailing that looks good from all angles.
The lower section of the block is painted with a blue wash and the words 'Sea State Rough or very rough Weather Rain Showers Visibility Moderate or good' run around the bottom of the block on top of the blue wash. A Ceramic fish hangs from a rusty nail on the side of the driftwood plinth.
Shirley has a passion for detail, texture and colour - using mark making to emboss the fish and boat and then glaze with layer upon layer of colour.
Her inspiration comes from her love of the coast, country walks with her dog and the fun of creating objects that are a little bit different and quirky.
She likes the idea of layering texture and colour to create pieces that are highly individual and totally unique.
One of Shirley's pieces makes a truly stunning addition to any coastal home.
