Love to Sail No. 2 consists of a rectangle of driftwood and a beautiful hand embossed earthenware ceramic boat, complete with textured pattern hull, driftwood mast, wire rigging and a sail made from hessian, with the number 3 proudly displayed on it.
This highly individual 'Love to Sail' piece of driftwood art by Shirley Vauvelle is also home to a pretty hand-embossed ceramic fish who swims along underneath the boat, and a square of paper with words from a shipping forecast: 'Sole Lundy Fastnet Irish Sea: Southerly 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 in Irish Sea at first, decreasing 4 or 5, veering northerly in west Sole and the far west of Fastnet later. Moderate.'
Shirley has a passion for texture and colour - using mark making to emboss her ceramic creations and then glaze with layers of colour.
Her inspiration comes from her love of the coast, country walks with her dog and the fun of creating objects that are a little bit different and quirky.
She likes the idea of layering texture and colour to create pieces that are highly individual and totally unique.
The most beautiful present for anyone who 'loves to sail'.
